If you’re sitting down for a Thanksgiving feast, remember that the Daily Bread Food Bank still needs your help to make sure nobody goes hungry.
So far the food bank is only one-third of the way to their Thanksgiving holiday drive goals.
While the food bank says they are fully booked and do not need anymore volunteers for the sorting and packing, they still need food and cash donations.
“Many people who are working are having a really hard time making it, with increase in gas prices, and food prices, and rent prices, many people have been pushed over that limit and are now forced to use a food bank,” said Gail Nyberg, Executive Director of the Daily Bread Food Bank.
The list of items they need includes baby formula, canned meats, canned fruit or vegetables, soups and stews, beans and lentils, macaroni and cheese and peanut butter.
“You know when you come out of the summer the shelves in the warehouse are pretty bare,” Nyberg said.
She added that the need is still great, after last year the bank saw a four per cent increase in the number of people they help.
“We served just about 800,000 people last year, that’s a pretty big increase and we’re still 18 per cent higher than where we were pre-recession,” Nyberg added.
You can find information on making a donation here.
The food bank is still hoping to raise $400,000 and 400,000 pounds of food.
You can drop off food donations at any local fire hall or participating grocery store.
The Daily Bread Thanksgiving drive ends October 14.
