Vito Rizzuto, often referred to as Montreal’s Teflon Don, is back in Canada.
The reputed mafia boss arrived at Toronto’s Pearson Airport late Friday after being released from a Colorado prison.
He had been serving a ten-year sentence in relation to racketeering, loansharking and murder related to the death of three rival crime-family captains.
Constable George Tudos of the Peel Regional Police says officers were on hand as Rizzuto arrived in Toronto on an Air Canada flight.
“We were seen as a security detail, just to make sure that he arrived safely into Canada and that he depart(ed) too in safe manner,” Tudos said.
There’s no word on where Rizzuto headed after he left the airport, with police saying he is a free man, and where he chooses to go is up to him.
It’s unclear whether Rizzuto will once again try to bring the Rizzuto crime family to prominence in the Canadian underworld.
Reports indicate that the Rizzuto crime family has been battered and suffered several losses while Vito was locked away.
While in prison Rizzuto’s son and father were both murdered, along with other associates, while his brother-in-law disappeared and has not been found.
