ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums says no major issues have been found at Marineland, a Niagara Falls, Ont., tourist attraction.

Marineland has been under scrutiny after a number of former employees claimed the quality of the water at the amusement park was risking the health of the animals.

CAZA sent in a team of inspectors in August and spokesman Bill Peters says after a good look at the pools, animals and staffing levels they came away with a positive view.

Peters says they found the water quality was very good, the health of the animals looked fine and it was clear there was adequate veterinary and other staff care for the animals.

The only problem found was an issue with the maintenance of the water management system, and Peters says CAZA has recommended Marineland bring in an outside party to inspect the system.

Peters says Marineland has agreed to undertake an independent assessment of their water management systems, and to additional, unannounced CAZA inspections in the future.
