TORONTO, Ont. – If there was ever a time for the Toronto Raptors to finally get out of the shadow of the Toronto Maple Leafs — this is it.
With no end in sight to the NHL lockout, the Raptors open training camp, Tuesday.
The Raptors are feeling good about the upcoming season, hoping the NHL’s loss if their gain.
“We can’t disregard that this is a big opportunity for us to capture fans, looking for something to pacify them in terms of sports activity on TV. So I think we got a chance at increasing our ratings,” Raptors’ president and GM Bryan Colangelo said.
Colangelo said there’s a definite upgrade in the talent this season, the likes of new point guard Kyle Lowry for example.
He said if last year was about developing, this year is about winning.
On the NHL front, talks are set to resume between the league and the players’ association in New York, Tuesday.
