TORONTO, Ont. – With the Opposition questioning the McGuinty government’s math over the two cancelled power plants in Mississauga, Ont., and Oakville, there’s now a call for the auditor general to review the deals.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said taxpayers need real answers, and the auditor general may be the only person with the power to get them.

“If the people of Ontario are paying for these private power deals, they deserve to know what’s in them,” Horwath said.

The debate over the contempt motion against Energy Minister Chris Bentley continues to dominate the legislature and Progressive Conservatives Leader Tim Hudak is making no apologies.

“Clearly this is worth some debate, and my MPPs are damn angry about it because their taxpayers are damn angry about it,” Hudak said.

The Liberals claim cancelling the plants will cost around $230 million, but Hudak puts that number at more than $650 million.
