TORONTO, Ont. – Police have made an arrest in the case of a woman who allegedly stole a donation box that belonged to the Sick Kids Foundation.

It’s alleged the woman went into a UPS store on Toronto Street, near Yonge and King streets, Wednesday, before taking the donation box from the counter.

Store manager Blaine Gervais said the woman came in to pick up a package and then lingered at the counter for several minutes.

“We gave her her parcel and she sat here at the counter for about five, six minutes just messing around, you know, opening up her box. And then she left,” Gervais said.

“About a week later a regular customer came in, he always donates to the Sick Kids [Foundation], and he asked where our money box was. Lo and behold, it’s gone.”

Gervais said he went through his security video, found out when it happened and reported the theft to police. He estimates as much as $250 was in the box when it was stolen.

“To steal from Sick Kids is just, it’s horrible,” he said. “It’s pretty sad that people are that desperate that they feel they have to steal from Sick Kids.”

Michelle Wisdom, 43, has been arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of cocaine.

She was scheduled to appear in court Sunday morning.
