TORONTO, Ont. – A stretch on the Queen Elizabeth Way has now opened in Mississauga after it was closed for several hours for a multi-vehicle crash.

Ontario Provincial Police officials say the crash happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, when a tractor trailer ran into a Hyundai that had struck a guardrail on the Niagara-bound lanes near Erin Mills Parkway.

“The driver of the Hyundai was transported to hospital in critical condition, the tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries,” said OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford.

The driver, a 35-year-old Mississauga man, was critically hurt.

“It’s too early to determine (whether charges will be laid),” Woodford added.

“We are looking at why he left the roadway, mechanical of the vehicle, alcohol, speed – those types of things.”

One person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
