VAUGHAN – York Regional Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man suspected of thefts at a Vaughan cemetery.
Police said that on five occasions between mid-May and Sept. 13, mourners at Beechwood Cemetery on Jane Street and Steeles Avenue have returned to their vehicles to find cash, credit cards and personal ID stolen.
“It’s unfortunate. It’s one of those thefts that occurs at one of the worst times for people,” Const. Blair McQuillan told 680News.
“They’re going to gravesites to remember their loved ones.”
The suspect is described as a heavy-built man with a round face, medium complexion, dark hair, and clean shaven.
Investigators are also appealing to any other victims to come forward.
Police also remind people visiting cemeteries to keep their vehicles locked and ensure valuables are not in plain view.
