Prime Minister Stephen Harper is set to meet with his Israeli counterpart in New York, Friday, after both leaders issued public condemnations of Iran.

On Thursday, Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN that Iran will be able to make a nuclear bomb by next summer.

Harper also suggested Iran poses a clear and present danger as he accepted an international statesman award from a New York-based group.

Harper also took a dig at the United Nations, suggesting it has too often wooed dictators despite their appalling human rights records and sinister aims.

He said Canadians expect their government to make decisions for the wider interests of humanity, and not to court every dictator who has a vote at the UN.

Harper’s shot at the UN came as he was criticized back home for once again skipping the UN General Assembly.

He brushed off criticism, saying it’s not standard procedure for a Canadian prime minister to address the General Assembly every year.
