TORONTO, Ont. – Ontario high school teachers have voted 93 per cent in favour of a strike, but students should not hit the snooze button just yet.
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) said despite the strike mandate, their members have no plans to walk off the job anytime soon.
The OSSTF president told The Globe and Mail the vote is an indication of its members’ anger over Bill 115, which froze salaries and stripped teachers of their right to strike.
Elementary teachers have been holding strike votes and results of those are due in October.
School boards have until the end of this year to reach deals with local bargaining units.
