It’s day three of debate of a Conservative contempt motion against energy minister Chris Bentley related to the cancellation of two power plants in Mississauga and Oakville.

As long as the contempt motion is on the floor, no other business can be carried out at the legislature.

The Liberals accuse the Tories of obstructing the business of the legislature but PC finance critic Peter Shurman doesn’t see it that way.

“This government has history of reckless spending, spending money on its own pet projects as opposed to what the people of Ontario need and that’s why they’re doing what we’re doing. We’re not obstructing anything.”

NDP energy critic Peter Tabuns said it’s time to move the power plant issue into committee for real answers.

“We need to learn from the mistakes that have been made. This is not enough to give us the information to make the assessment.”

The Conservatives claim the cost of scrapping the plants is closer to $650-million, almost triple what the liberals have stated.
