HAMILTON, Ont. – A Hamilton police constable is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm after a Special Investigations Unit probe of a jail cell incident that left a boy injured.
The SIU says the 16-year-old suffered a broken tooth and other facial injuries on July 22 following an altercation with a police officer following his arrest.
The boy was taken to hospital for treatment.
The police watchdog agency recommended the charge against Const. Ryan Gagnon following an investigation.
Gagnon is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 6.
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
