KESWICK, Ont. – The name of a 22-year-veteran of York Regional Police killed in the line of duty will adorn a stretch of road in the Town of Georgina.
Robert Plunkett Drive was formally unveiled in a ceremony on Tuesday in the area bounded by Woodbine Avenue and Biscayne Boulevard.
“Rob was recognized more than 25 times for going above and beyond the call of duty,” York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe said. “He received numerous awards and letters of thanks from a variety of community organizations.”
“We thank you and it is truly a moving tribute,” Jolliffe said.
Const. Plunkett died in August 2007 when he was pinned between a tree and a car driven by a suspect trying to resist arrest.
Plunkett’s widow, Sonja, is grateful for the gesture.
