TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police said the three-alarm blaze that destroyed a home under construction in the city’s east end and damaged nearby houses is suspicious.
According to police, they also discovered two homes in the neighbourhood near Danforth and Pharmacy avenues and a car doused in gasoline and have asked residents to inspect their properties for anything unusual.
“We want to hear from you if there is anything all,” Const. Tony Vella said.
Police had taken in a person of interest for questioning but the person was released without charges.
The fire broke out at around 6 a.m. at 141 Byng Ave., a home under construction, located near Danforth and Pharmacy avenues. Toronto Fire’s platoon chief told 680News that the electricity and gas lines were not hooked up to the house under construction.
Three nearby houses were damaged by the fire and six houses in the neighbourhood were evacuated as a precaution.
At one point, the flames rose to over 30 feet high, burning trees and power lines, and melting the aluminum siding on a house two doors down.
No injuries were reported.
