A case of influenza A H1N1 (swine flu) variant has been detected in a man in the southwestern part of the province, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health said Tuesday.
Dr. Arlene King said the adult man became sick after being in close contact with pigs, and is being treated in hospital.
She also said normally, this variant of the flu affects only animals and is very rare.
King urges people to continue to try to prevent any illness by washing hands, cooking meat properly and to get immunized.
Details of the man’s identity and the city in which he lives are not being released.
