TORONTO, Ont. – He was a Toronto legend, and Tuesday, family and friends came to remember Sam Sniderman, better known as “Sam the Record Man.”
Sniderman died on Sunday at the age of 92.
His funeral was held at Benjamin’s Park Memorial Chapel at on Steeles Ave. W., near Dufferin Street.
Among those at the service was Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who shared his memories of Sniderman and his iconic store.
“I remember buying my first little single, this little round one on The Beatles when I was seven or eight years old … went down there with my brothers,” Ford told CityNews Channel.
In lieu of flowers, his family asked for donations to be made to Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s cancer treatment centre in Charlottetown, PEI.
A memorial service is being planned for October.
