Council in Peel region has passed a 99 per cent hike in housing development fees.
As of October 4, the fee for each single-family residential unit will increase from just under $18,000 to just over $35,000.
The hike will not apply to homes that already have construction permits or are well into the planning stage, The Toronto Star reported.
One developer said this will have a big impact on first-time buyers and the industry is considering appealing the fee hike to the Ontario Municipal Board.
