TORONTO, Ont. – Members of the transit workers’ union would consider work-to-rule in a row over the TTC’s plans to outsource its bus cleaning, union president Bob Kinnear said on Friday.
Kinnear said a work-to-rule campaign that would reduce the city’s transit to a crawl is only one option the union will consider should city councillors on the Toronto Transit Commission approve contracting out bus cleaning at a meeting Thursday.
The union president told the Star on Friday that it could also refuse to sign a joint letter the TTC submits annually to the province’s labour ministry.
It exempts TTC employees from the 48-hour work week, allowing them to work up to 64 hours.
TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said that no one would lose their jobs because of the outsourcing.
