RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – A 47-year-old suspect, held in a cell for several hours on Thursday, was found dead in his home just hours following his release from police custody.
The Special Investigations Unit said York Regional Police arrested an allegedly intoxicated man found in a car around 5 p.m. on Thursday.
The suspect was held in a cell for several hours then released to a family member shortly before 3 a.m. early Friday morning.
Roughly three hours later, the man was found dead in his home.
The province’s police watchdog said three investigators and three forensics specialists are investigating the death.
