Autumn officially arrives on Saturday at 10:49 a.m. ET, and although summer may be ending, it seems the warmer than normal trend could continue.
“In spite of the next week being a little bit inclement and little wetter than we want, we think that fall will continue to be what the last year has been like — warmer than normal,” Environment Canada senior climatologist Dave Phillips said.
Now, he’s not talking the dog days of summer warmth with tank tops and flip flops, but people won’t have to haul out the parka yet either.
“The [summer] season will be over, but to have it warm during the day and good sleeping weather at night — I think we can count on a few more of those,” Phillips said.
He added that people should just enjoy the change of season and its leafy ‘technicolour dreamcoat.’
On top of the warm trend, there’s another perk.
“Because it’s free energy time, it’s not hot enough to have the air condition on [and] it’s not cold enough to have the heat on. So all this wonderful weather that we’re going to get is not going to cost us anything,” Phillips said.
In terms of winter, Phillips predicts it will be tougher and longer than last year.
