TORONTO, Ont. – In phase two of a $220-million expansion of the Yorkdale Shopping Centre, the mall is set to grow 145,000 square feet the biggest expansion in its 50 year history.

The shopping centre employs 5,000 workers at over 200 stores and will require 1,000 new hires as they prepare to unveil storefronts from companies such as Microsoft and Tesla Motors.

“When you have the success of previous retailers, they tend to see that opportunities to expand, which may be limited in the States, have a captive audience in Canada,” Anthony Casalanguida, the shopping centre’s general manager said.

The new expansion will add 40 new stores, more than 800 new underground parking spaces and a new valet area.
