WINNIPEG – The mayor of Winnipeg is offering to give Toronto Mayor Rob Ford some pointers on Canadian geography.
Sam Katz says if he meets Ford he’ll pass along a friendly reminder that Winnipeg is firmly planted in the province of Manitoba — not sitting beside upper Michigan, as Ford remarked in Chicago on Tuesday.
Ford made the slip-up when answering a question from a young woman who said she had visited a Canadian city across the river from Detroit.
Ford responded by asking her if she went to Winnipeg — which is roughly 1,800 kilometres from Detroit — when she instead meant Windsor, Ont.
Katz says Ford likely got mixed up because both cities have names starting with the letter “W.”
He says that even U.S. presidents commit verbal gaffes _ and isn’t surprised Ford could also make such a blunder.
