Half of respondents in an H&R Block Canada survey said they have paid cash in order to avoid taxes and don’t feel badly about it either.
The survey findings, released on Wednesday, found that five in 10 respondents said they would pay a contractor in cash to avoid sales taxes.
Only 30 per cent of those surveyed considered avoiding taxes wrong.
The majority of the 1,500 adults surveyed also said they should not have to report bartered or traded services.
They also do not think restaurant servers should pay taxes on their tips.
An H&R Block tax analyst said there can be serious legal penalties for tax avoidance.
