MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Two people are dead and another is critically injured following a head-on collision between a tractor-trailer and a car, bringing the number of deaths on GTA roadways on Friday to four.

The female driver and male passenger were killed, OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford told CityNews.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and police said a second person died in hospital.

A third person was transported to hospital with critical injuries.

The collision occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m., closing all eastbound lanes of Highway 403 near Winston Churchil Boulevard.

The highway reopened shortly after 7 p.m.

Two other people died in collisions on GTA highways on Friday.

A man riding a motorcycle died on the Gardiner Expressway, and a 52-year-old woman from Bramalea was killed when her car was rear-ended by a garbage truck on Highway 407.
