OTTAWA – Federal crime prevention funds announced on Thursday will target at-risk youth, Aboriginal youth and bullying in schools.
The federal government will pledge up to $10-million to boost crime prevention efforts countrywide.
“We know that it is very costly to keep people in prison,” Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said.
“If we can find ways of having them avoid prison by intervening in a meaningful way when they’re young — that I think is money well spent,” he said.
The deadline to apply for crime prevention funding is Oct. 25.
