TORONTO, Ont. – One person is dead after a three-alarm fire broke out at an assisted-living facility near Carlton and Church streets on Tuesday.
Firefighters responded to the fire at around 9:30 p.m.
The blaze began in a unit on the ninth floor of Tobias House, a home catered to seniors and people with physical disabilities, located at 84 Carlton St., near Church Street.
Fire officials said the victim lived in the ninth floor unit and had mobility issues.
The fire was contained quickly and did not spread to other units.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is not known. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office will be called in to investigate the cause.
