TORONTO, Ont. – Celebrating a decade of making a difference in the fight against cancer, the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers is taking place this weekend.

The weekend-long event, which raises money for cancer research, benefits the Campbell Family Institute cancer research facilities at The Princess Margaret Hospital.

This year, more than 4,500 participants raised approximately $10 million for cancer research.

This year’s event offers entertainment and a great atmosphere followed by either a one-day 32-km walk, or a two-day 60-km walk.

Despite the heavy rain Saturday morning, walkers were well prepared with ponchos and were in great spirits.

The entertainment began Friday night with a party at the Sheraton Centre from 6-8 p.m., where entertainers like Glass Tiger and Divine Brown performed.

On Saturday the walk begins with opening ceremonies followed by the 32-km walk. Afterward there will be entertainment, dancing and a hot meal at a campsite.

For those staying the night and taking part in the two-day walk, Sunday will feature the second day of walking followed by the closing ceremonies.

The weekend has raised more then $120 million since its inception in 2003.
