TORONTO, Ont. – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Greater Toronto Area, calling for lots of rain, starting Friday and into Saturday.

CityNews meteorologist Jill Taylor said a low pressure system over the U.S. Mid-West is expected to track towards the Great Lakes, with rainfall accumulations between 20-40 millimetres by Saturday evening.

The Credit Valley Conservation, meanwhile, has issued a warning due to the possibility of rising water levels. Localized flooding in low-lying areas throughout the GTA is also expected.

The special weather statement also covers areas west to London, cottage country, and east to Ottawa.

Rainfall amounts could reach 50 millimetres in areas that receive thunderstorms.
