TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have confirmed that the human remains found inside a suitcase in Lake Ontario belong to body parts case victim Guang Hua Liu.
A decomposed torso was found near Bluffers Park, Wednesday.
A post-mortem was conducted on Thursday and it was determined that the remains belonged to Liu.
Peel police will now take over the investigation.
Liu’s head and hands were later discovered in the river in the Hewick Meadows Park area. Two calves, a thigh and an arm were found in West Highland Creek, blocks from where she lived.
Her former boyfriend Chun Qi Jiang, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder.
The suitcase containing the torso was located by two boaters who had been on Lake Ontario, according to police.
“Boaters in Lake Ontario brought it to shore, and that’s when police were contacted,” Constable Tony Vella told 680News.
“When officers arrived, they examined the contents of the suitcase and it has been determined the contents are human remains.”
Saying it was a matter of evidence, police would not comment on the colour of the suitcase.
“What I can tell you is the suitcase is sufficient enough to contain that of a torso,” said Detective Les Dunkley.
