Two dead, two hurt following crash near Newmarket

Two people are dead, and two others injured, following a three-vehicle crash in Holland Landing, near Newmarket, Ont., Wednesday.

York Regional Police told 680News it happened at around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Highway 11 and Bathurst Street.

The people killed were in a Ford Windstar, and police said there was also a Ford F-150 pick-up truck and a Pontiac Grand Am involved.

“It was extremely foggy [Wednesday] morning, very low visibility from what I’m told,” York Regional Police Constable Blair McQuillan told CityNews. “There was some immediate concerns about gathering evidence right away due to the weather conditions.”

McQuillan added that it’s a fairly complicated scene, which resulted in the closure of the area for much of Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“It’s very busy here in the morning with morning rush hour, probably lots of people seeing this. We need them to contact the Collision Investigation Unit and provide any information that they may have,” McQuillan said.

Police have not identified the victims.
