MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – If you travel the six-kilometre stretch of the Highway 401 from Dixie to Mavis roads, be extra careful.

It’s being called the most dangerous stretch of the highway by the Ministry of Transportation, with the highest collision rate in the province.

According to the ministry, the second most dangerous is the 34-kilometre stretch of the 401, from Neilson Road in Scarborough to the Highway 427 in Etobicoke.

The third-most collision-prone stretch of the 401 is the four kilometres from Westney to Liverpool roads, to the east of the city.

Despite that, both the ministry and the Ontario Provincial Police said while it’s busy, the 401 has the lowest traffic fatality rate in North America.
