Police say the suspicious package found at Kennedy subway station was not an explosive device.
A cleaner found the package on a train and alerted officials. Police say the package had a suspicious note on it.
The station was evacuated for several hours and the Emergency Task Force was called in.
The package was detonated and officials determined that it did not contain an explosive device.
Sgt. Lou Gibb said police will be dealing with this incident as a criminal matter.
“It’s disgraceful. You’ve disrupted the lives of many many citizens in the city. Officers were put in jeopardy, people were put in jeopardy, employees of the TTC were put in jeopardy,” he said.
Officials will be going over surveillance tapes to help identify the suspect. Sgt. Gibbs says they know the number of the train the package was located on, which should assist their search.
Full service resumed at the station shortly before 10:30 p.m.
The SRT was halted and buses were not allowed to enter Kennedy station while police investigated.
