A 50-year-old man is being treated for non-life threatening injuries after being shot in the arm by police in Mississauga.

Peel officers were called to the area for a disturbance in the Lake Shore and Hurontario area around 1:15 p.m.

Initial reports from the scene suggested the shots were fired following a stand-off.

A witness told CityNews the location police visited holds both inpatient and outpatient programs for people suffering from mental illness.

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in, and a stretch of Lake Shore was closed for the investigation.
