The rainfall warning issued by Environment Canada for the city of Toronto and the GTA, has ended.

The warning remains in effect for parts of Ontario including Belleville, Kingston, Peterborough, Smith Falls and Renfrew.

The warning was issued for most of southern Ontario following a wet and wild morning and afternoon, Tuesday.

The weather agency issued a thunderstorm warning in the morning, as severe storms lashed Toronto and surrounding areas. It was reduced to a watch by midday.

Radar indications showed anywhere from 30 to 70 millimetres of rain had fallen on parts of the GTA by Tuesday afternoon. An additional 20 to 30 before the system moves out of the area at night.

As a result, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority says localized flooding may occur, because water levels in rivers and streams will be higher than normal. The warning remains in place until Wednesday.

The south end of the Bayview extension experienced extreme flooding on Tuesday afternoon, as well as areas throughout Markham, which saw the highest rainfall totals in the GTA.
