A 55-year-old man from Peterborough has died after a crash on Highway 7 at Terrace Road, near the village of Marmora.
It’s reported the man’s Nissan Altima was travelling east on Highway 7 when it crossed into the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a tractor trailer.
Both vehicles caught fire, although the blaze was quickly extinguished by the truck driver and several witnesses that stopped to help.
Emergency service teams arrived on the scene where they found that the driver of the Nissan had succumbed to his injuries.
Ronald Brian Pogue, 55, of Peterborough was pronounced dead on the scene.
The impact of the crash ruptured the tractor’s fuel tank, spilling approximately 200 litres of diesel fuel onto the roadway.
The Ministry of the Environment was called and coordinated the clean-up of the fuel.
Highway 7 had been completely closed to traffic for several hours as an investigation took place and workers cleaned up the spilled fuel.
Police say both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
