TORONTO, Ont. – It’s the final weekend of the CNE which means one thing – the air show.

This year, 680′s Momin Qureshi was the brave reporter chosen to go up in the sky in the Harvard Two aircraft with experienced pilot Mike Rambo.

Feeling “like Pete Maverick Mitchell from the movie Top Gun,” Qureshi said he became the less-confident version of Tom Cruise’s character, feeling nervous – and excited – from the moment he saw the plane to when he suited up.

“My plan is to make it a life-changing event, so hang on,” Rambo told Qureshi. “We’re going to do some rolls and if we get some time, we’re going to do some fun manoeuvres like a hammer head, and a humpty-bump.”

“We’re going to have fun here,” was his final comment before they began their journey, and our nervous 680 reporter said once he was strapped in, he got his swagger back.

“I’m very excited – about to feel the force of the take off. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Qureshi said.

But as soon as the plane did its first barrel roll, the swagger was long gone and Qureshi’s stomach was the first to protest.

However, he said the views from high above the downtown core were worth the abdominal rumbles and he loved every second of the journey.

Rambo said some of the weekend’s stunts will include “flying upside down a couple hundred feet above the water and then stay upside down for the remainder and then push away again. Very uncomfortable for the normal pilot.”

He said the pilots have also added something extra special for their Toronto audience – a heritage of training flight.

Soon it was time to land and Qureshi was not only overjoyed by his experience, but relieved.

“Thankfully, I came back in one piece,” he said.

The air show takes place Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 1-4 p.m.
