TORONTO, Ont. – Police have made a plea for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, in what they call a brutal, personal attack on a 24-year-old man whose body was found Friday in Leslieville.

At a news conference Wednesday morning, investigators said George Fawell, 24, died from being repeatedly stabbed in the chest with a knife, and chop wounds to his face and neck from another weapon.

Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux said evidence shows at least two attackers were involved in what he called one of the worst sharp force injury murders he had ever seen.

“What it struck me as when I saw the deceased at the coroner’s office was that it was personal in nature, emotionally driven, extreme brutality and anger,” Giroux told reporters. “It was completely unnecessary and it was so egregious that I suspect that Mr. Fawell had passed away and the attack on his body continued.”

The victim’s body was found behind the Jimmy Simpson Recreation Centre at Queen and Broadview, near the railroad tracks.

Investigators believe people in the area at the time of the crime know what happened to Fawell and if they don’t speak up, they could face charges.

“If I get to them first and find out that they’ve been assisting or aiding or abetting, then I’m going to arrest them,” Giroux said.

Meanwhile, Fawell’s aunt Deanna Parlee – who raised him as her own – told reporters she is horrified by what happened.

“George was a human being. No one deserves to be dumped like garbage,” she said. “He meant something to us. We all miss him. We want his killer or killers brought to justice.”

“I know that someone heard or saw something, and I beg you to please come forward to help us and help George to rest peacefully,” she pleaded.

This is Toronto’s 34th homicide of 2012.
