Two 16-year-old boys who went missing while kayaking in Lake Ontario Saturday night have been rescued by a coast-guard vessel.

Reports indicate the pair of boys had been part of a group of 11 people that set off from Niagara On The Lake headed toward the Toronto area.

“At about 8:30 a.m. local time this morning, the coast-guard vessel Cape Storm located the two kayakers,” said Captain Houde from CFB Trenton. “They were about halfway in Lake Ontario along their track line between Niagara and Toronto.”

One of the kayakers was hypothermic and unable to function, while the other was in good shape. Some good thinking by the pair helped them stick together.

“They tied themselves together so they wouldn’t drift apart, and they were picked up and brought to Toronto and the one individual has been taken to hospital,” Houde added.

The coast guard and a C-130 Hercules aircraft from CFB Trenton were involved in the search.
