In an effort to lower our cholesterol, everything seems to have gone ‘low fat’ or ‘no fat’.
It seems cholesterol and fats have gotten a bad reputation, although in truth, good fats are actually essential for a healthy lifestyle.
Health expert Lorna Vanderhaeghe says that, with rates of cardiovascular disease and stroke on the rise, it is important that people get the right information.
While eating low-fat foods and low amounts of salt can be productive, you do need to have some fat in your diet.
“We do need to have adequate amounts of cholesterol so good fat is important,” Vanderhaeghe said.
“That would be extra-virgin olive oil, organic coconut butter, those are the two fats you should use in replacement of all the other bad ones. Read labels, avoid things like canola, which is genetically modified Rapeseed.”
We also need cholesterol for production of our male and female hormones, and it is also used to patch and repair damage in the body.
