Bamoseda highlights the 14th annual Anishnabek Evening of Excellence.
Awards were handed out to Anishinabek citizens throughout Ontario in recognition of their work in their communities — from grassroots to national initiatives.
Ten people received Lifetime Achievement Awards, five scholarships were handed out, a community development award was presented, and new this year, was the Debwewin Citation — an award for excellence in journalism or storytelling in First Nations on Aboriginal issues.
We’ll hear from some of the recipients, including Anishinabek Grandmother Josephine Mandamin, plus mature student Jill Thomson — one of the scholarship recipients will discuss her experience going back to school — and author Basil Johnston will talk about the importance of language in storytelling.
