We’ve seen a stretch of fall-like weather recently, after what was has been of the warmest summers in years.

It appears summer has at least one more blast left in it, however, with a return to the heat and humidity expected beginning Thursday.

“Highs near 30, feeling closer to 35 for (Friday) and the weekend, so the humidity will increase today and it may take until Tuesday to really flush out that humidity, so (it will be a) very muggy stretch of air for us,” said meteorologist Jill Taylor.

Hot and muggy is something we’ve grown accustomed to this summer, however, with officials declaring nine heat alerts and four extreme alerts to this point.

Those alerts have covered about 20 days, which is nearly double the number we saw last summer.

As a matter of fact, in the United States the drought-like conditions are so bad you can actually spot it from space on NASA satellite photos, with more than 60 per cent of the lower 48 states affected.

Here in Canada, some Niagara-area wineries have already started the harvest, marking one of the earliest ever.
