Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad has been pulled from the water, ending her attempt to swim from Cuba to Florida, according to CNN.
Her team says the 62-year-old has been stung by numerous jellyfish and was forced to end her historic swim.
Nyad had been in the water for 60 hours and was about half way through her swim.
Mark Sollinger, the swimmer’s operations chief, told CNN that overnight Nyad had swam through a major lightning storm, which put anyone in the water in extreme danger.
He said despite feeling down and tired, Nyad was doing “okay.”
Nyad had been “holding up well” after heavy squalls hampered her quest on Saturda, however she was pulled out of the water off the coast of Key West, Tuesday morning.
This was her fourth attempt to become the first person in history to complete the swim through the straights of Florida without a shark cage.
