TORONTO, Ont. – A Toronto city councillor is suggesting that cycling be banned on a street where unused streetcar tracks are being blamed for the death of a man.
A 47-year-old man died earlier this month on Wychwood Avenue, after getting his bike tires stuck in the tracks. Police say the man, who was not wearing a helmet, fell to the ground and hit his head. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Chair of the city’s public works committee Denzil Minnan-Wong told the Globe and Mail the city should consider things like removing parking on Wychwood or even banning cycling on the street.
Councillor Minnan-Wong says removing the old tracks is something the city cannot afford.
