TORONTO, Ont. – The countdown to school is on and that means back to school shopping is underway.
A new BMO survey has found that Canadians plan to spend more on back to school shopping this year than last year.
The survey also found that almost half of shoppers plan to buy their items at local retailers, with only one-in-four planning to stop online.
People plan to spend about $360 on average, which is about $40 more than last year.
However, 96 per cent say they are planning to make efforts to cut down on their spending through coupons, comparison shopping and only buying what is essential.
Quebecers plan to spend the most, with people in the Prairies planning to spend the least.
