CALEDON, Ont. – Police have identified the two victims of a serious collision in Caledon.
The driver of the van, Christopher White, 49, of Halton and passenger Elizabeth McDougall, 41 of Mississauga were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police believe a driver in a pickup truck was travelling north on Highway 10, when for an unknown reason, the driver entered the southbound lanes, striking a van carrying eight people.
Reports indicate there were four children in the van, although their specific condition is still unknown.
“There was one driver and seven passengers in that van, the driver and one of the passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, all the other passengers, two other adults and four children, have been transported to hospital,” said Caledon OPP Constable Brenda Evans.
Ontario Provincial Police told CityNews the crash happened last night on Highway 10, near Forks of the Credit Road, around 10:30 p.m.
The highway was closed for several hours as police and the collision reconstruction team investigated, but the road has since re-opened.
In total, five people suffered minor injures, one person suffered serious injuries and another is listed in critical condition.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is being asked by police to come forward.
