TORONTO, Ont. – Beginning Friday, the Celebrate Yonge festival will transform a large area of Yonge Street with brand new public spaces for pedestrians.

For the first time in decades, visitors will be able to drink, eat and relax right on the iconic Yonge Street.

The festival will feature temporary patio extensions onto the roadways which will remain for four weeks, ending on September 16.

There will be planters, decorated by landscapers from across Ontario for the Livegreen Planter Box Challenge, separating vehicles from pedestrians.

Much of the newly created public space will be used for patios and outdoor cafes, as well as special displays and programming.

Along the stretch of road there will also be themes areas, including a Funway for kids with life-sized outdoor games like chess and Connect 4.

Five of the themed areas will have full, outdoor restaurant patios to enjoy the final days of summer.
