TORONTO, Ont. – One lucky person will emerge a millionaire after a single Powerball ticket, worth $337-million, was sold at a gas station in Lapeer, Michigan on Wednesday.

Officials in Lapeer, which is about 45-minutes from Detroit and near the border in Windsor, has raised speculation that a Canadian could be the multi-million dollar jackpot winner.

Michigan Lottery spokeswoman Andi Brancato said Canadians have won smaller prizes in previous draws but never a jackpot.

Officials say the odds of having a winning ticket were one in 175-million, and they are asking every one who bought a Powerball ticket to check their numbers.

If a Canadian has purchased that winning ticket, they would not have to pay taxes on their winnings in Michigan, however they would have to pay 30-per cent federal tax in the U.S. as well as a separate Michigan tax of up to 30-per cent.

The $320-million Powerball lottery jackpot is the 10th largest prize in U.S. history.
