TORONTO, Ont. – Travellers can now bypass screening lines at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport if they have a Nexus card.
The announcement was made Tuesday morning at the Toronto airport by federal Minister of State for Transport Steven Fletcher.
“People in the business community are using the Toronto Island Billy Bishop airport more often for the convenience. It’s just become even more convenient,” said Fletcher.
He said that with more and more people are using these smaller airports, this technological expansion is a necessity for travellers.
“This will be very important for the business community as well as the growth of the airport,” he said. “The Billy Bishop Toronto Island airport, is now the ninth busiest airport in Canada. It’s just remarkable. With 1.4-million passengers a year.”
The Nexus program has been expanded to several other airports as well, including St John’s, Nfld., Moncton, N.B., Quebec City, Que., and Kelowna, B.C.
