Police in Calgary have laid a charge of first-degree murder in the death of a peace officer investigating a complaint about dogs.
Rod Lazenby, a retired Mountie working as a bylaw enforcement officer, died after an incident at a ranch on the outskirts of Calgary.
He was driven to a police station where it was discovered he was badly wounded. He was then rushed to hospital where he later died.
Police aren’t saying much about what happened, except that 46-year-old Trevor Kloschinsky is due to appear in court on a murder charge Monday.
“From what we are able to release, officer Lazenby was investigating a dog-related complaint on the Kloschinsky property when an incident occurred, following the incident Mr. Kloschinsky was arrested,” said RCMP Inspector Garret Woolsey.
Neighbours in the area say dogs on Kloschinsky’s property were noisy and had been problematic for a couple of years.
