TORONTO, Ont. – Environment Canada’s severe thunderstorm warning has ended for Toronto, Pickering, Oshawa and southern Durham Region. It was issued earlier Friday morning.
On Thursday, the weather agency issued a special weather statement remains for the GTA and much of southern Ontario, including eastern Ontario, calling for the possibility of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms.
Environment Canada said 15-30 millimetres of rain are expected, with 30-50 millimetres possible in thunderstorms.
A low pressure system currently over southwestern Ohio will be heading to southwestern Ontario, Friday, and into Quebec on Saturday.
On Thursday, the Toronto and Region Conservation issued a warning for higher water levels. It said that may create dangerous conditions in local rivers streams, and that localized flooding is possible.
Drivers are being advised to use extreme caution and avoid driving through low lying areas and roadways, particularly at underpasses.
They are also advising parents to alert children of the dangers of flooding and to supervise their activities.
